Dominic Wright is a London-based composer, currently studying for a BMus in composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Matthew Kaner and Sylvia Lim.
His music has been described as “beautiful” and “most haunting and effective” by Grammy award-winning composer Christopher Tin.
Hailing from East Yorkshire, his music has been heard across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Most notably, his piece ‘Waves of Song’ (2021) for choir, double horns and strings, a setting of a specially commissioned poem by renowned poet Ian McMillan, received considerable local media attention (Yorkshire Post, BBC Radio Humberside) and received a standing ovation at its premiere.
In 2020, he crowdfunded the recording and release of Coronavirus String Quartet, a 30-minute string quartet exploring the difficulties in communication caused by the pandemic as explored through the lens of his own struggles with autism spectrum disorder.
In both 2023 and 2024, working as part of a small team led by Joanna Gill, he helped produce orchestral arrangements and accompaniments for contemporary Christian worship songs for the Alpha Leadership Conference, an annual Christian conference held in the Royal Albert Hall and live-streamed globally.
Upcoming projects include working with the Luxembourg Saxophone Association, writing a solo piano piece for leading contemporary and experimental pianist Ben Smith and participating in the inaugural Cumnock Tryst International Composer Summer School 2024 with Sir James MacMillan and Anna Thorvaldsdottir.
In addition to being an accomplished early career composer, he is a talented singer, currently studying with Adrian Thompson. He was a member of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and currently sings with the London Philharmonic Choir and the HTB Chamber Choir.
